What the SD-60SS Does

A finished electrical tape roll leaves the slitter as a bare spiral of film and adhesive. On a distributor shelf it gets scuffed, picks up dust, and loses its label. The SD-60SS wraps each roll in shrink film and places a paper card on top, then shrinks the film tight, so the roll arrives at the shop clean, branded, and identifiable. It runs one roll at a time, fully automatically, and it is built around one thing: the 38–42 mm core that electrical and PVC insulating tapes are wound on. That focus is also its limit. A 76 mm core roll will not fit the mandrel; that is the SD-77HM’s job. A 56 mm core roll does not run either; the SD-920HM covers that size.

Where It Fits on the Line

The SD-60SS is the single-roll wrapping station of a tape plant:

Slitting and rewinding → SD-60SS (shrink film + paper card + shrink, one roll) → labeling → case erecting and sealing → palletizing.

Plants that also sell multi-roll sets keep the same wrapper and add a column pack stage behind it: the SD-1060 sleeve wrapper with an SD-4522 (or the economy SD-4020) shrink tunnel turns single rolls into 10-roll shrink sets. One wrapper, two pack formats.

Applications

The SD-60SS wraps single rolls of electrical tape, PVC insulating tape, cloth tape, masking tape, and BOPP tape wound on 38–42 mm cores with a 52–98 mm outer diameter. These are the rolls that end up on hardware store shelves and in electricians’ tool bags, so the pack has to survive distribution and still look retail-ready.

The paper card does more than cover the roll. It carries the brand, the barcode, and the usage text, and it sits under the film where it cannot slide off. Cards are pre-made and pre-printed before they reach the line; the machine picks each card with a manipulator and places it on the roll before shrinking. You control the artwork; the machine controls the placement.

By our own count, more than 70% of the electrical tape plants in China run Shengde packing machines. Plant owners keep choosing this wrapper for three plain reasons: it is simple to operate, it is affordable, and the turntable structure fits a small floor. Outside the standard size range we build to order, so send the roll drawing before you assume it will not fit.

The SD-60SS and the SD-77HM are not a low-end and high-end pair. They split by core size, and the SD-60SS is actually the faster of the two. Pick by the core your tape is wound on, then by pack format.

Before You Specify

Send three numbers before anything else: core inner diameter, roll outer diameter, and finished width. If they sit inside 38–42 mm core, 52–98 mm OD, and 15–50 mm width, the standard machine runs your product. Outside that, we quote a custom build.

If your plant runs mixed SKUs, weigh the changeover: a diameter change needs a mold swap (15–20 minutes), a width change is parameter adjustment only (about 5 minutes).

CE certification and light-curtain guarding are standard for export. Installation is video-guided: set up the same day, 1–3 days of commissioning, no engineer fly-out. And if your building has no three-phase supply, the AC220V single-phase option runs the same machine.

SD-60SS Questions

Will it run my 76 mm core tape?

No. The mandrel is machined for 38–42 mm cores. A 76 mm core roll goes to the SD-77HM, and 56 mm goes to the SD-920HM.

What film does it take?

Shrink film in the 0.035–0.04 mm range, with about 50% shrink rate. The constant-temperature system holds the seal steady across the shift.

How long does a changeover take?

A diameter change means swapping the mold: 15–20 minutes. A width change needs no mold, just parameter adjustment, about 5 minutes.

Can the paper card carry our logo and barcode?

Yes. Cards are pre-made and pre-printed before they reach the machine; the manipulator picks and places each one. You source the printed cards, the machine handles placement.

What power supply does it need?

AC380V three-phase or AC220V single phase, 4.5 kW total, plus 0.5 MPa compressed air. Tell us your local supply when you request a quote.

How long to install?
